Sakito

Sakito

Here is a beverage to increase the joy of spring: sakito, a fortunate blend between the freshness of sake, the crisp and invigorating notes of mint, and the subtle swetness of St. Germain’s elderflower.

To start

Wait for one of those long, hot spring days. Long for a refreshing beverage, and round up that bottle of orange-infused Sake I gave you. If I didn’t give you one, just ask for it, or use your favorite sake (unless it is junmai dai ginjo, in that case, just invite me over and we’ll drink it straight).

The beverage

Remember mojitos? Start the same way by placing some mint leaves in a glass and gently crushing them a couple of times with a wooden pestle. Add ice.

In a cocktail shaker, blend:

  • 2 parts of orange-infused sake
  • 1/2 part St. Germain’s elderflower liquour. A bit less, if you abhor sweet drinks. Thanks to Jeff Vanelle for the hint on this one!
  • 1/4 part Cointreau

Shake vigorously. Look as professional as you can whilst doing it, and then pour them over the glass.

Top it up with tonic soda.

That’s it! Enjoy!
